I can’t believe it’s already March.
What is it about being a grown up that makes time race by?
To combat my naturally pessimistic attitude I’ve compiled this list to pump you up on this glorious Monday
morning. Deep reflections on self acceptance and love to resume tomorrow.
10.) Mustaches. Apparently this month has been dubbed “mustache March” in which men who have no business growing them, attempt to out do each other. For onlookers such as myself, it is a time of wonder and appreciation.
9.) March madness. Ladies, you know how much we can get done with our husbands so focused on their brackets? Yes, the squeaking sounds of shoes on the basketball court on TV will drive you crazy, but this is a treat. He may even win and treat you do a fancy milkshake or something.
8.) The holiday season is now officially over. Valentines is over, the chocolate is gone, now we can be “good”.
7.) Oh wait, St.Patricks Day. This holiday always makes me think of my Grandma Pat. She was Irish to the bone and every year when I was little she’d take me to the corn beef and cabbage dinner and dance at her catholic church with Father O’Brien who talked like a real leprechaun. It was something she and I both looked forward to all year. The smell of corned beef cooking always reminds me of those dances and my little Irish grandma. She used to sign every single card with,” God love you, God keep you and God watch over you.”
6.) I spoke too soon on the holiday thing. Easter falls in March this year. Which means our “sunrise” service at church will be freeeeeezing. Good times. Invigorating! Marshmallow Peeps for breakfast. (Just kidding)
5.) I discovered that March 25th is national waffle day. The possibilities are endless.
4.) The month of March is women’s history month. Yessssss! Its awesome to stop and learn and appreciate what so many women went through in history to make the world a better place. Be inspired this month to celebrate the women in your life as well as the women in history. Who are the women in YOUR history?
3.) This month we will start to see some of the good produce come back which is exciting. Don’t you LOVE summertime fruit? I love this time of year when strawberries and blueberries start piling up at the stores…pretty soon watermelon. Yes! Small things to look forward to.
2.) The official beginning of spring. You know the old saying “in like a lion, out like a lamb”? Well who knows?! In Reno it could snow again in June so we really can’t count on spring being around the corner yet. But it puts some pep in my step seeing little hints of green in my yard after the rain. The transition from winter to spring is spiritual, watching things begin anew and fresh. Which also sadly means I’ll have fresh and new weeds.
1.) I learned that this month used to be the first month of the year on the Roman calendar. Named after Mauritius or Mars, the roman god of
War. This is said to be because the roman battle season began again in the spring after the winter months were spent in preparation to start over. I chose this to be my number 1 choice in this list for a reason. So often we think of January as our month to get it together because of New Years…and it comes and goes. When I read this fact about March I was energized! I know my battle
season has just begun. I have come out of this winter of preparation and self study ready to take on my challenges like a beast, or even conquer them like a roman warrior.
I am also a woman in the month celebrating women.
I am a triple threat this Monday morning!
Hear me ROOAAAARRRRR!
“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hallow of His hand.”

Maternal Grandmother was a great influence. Gentle spirit, wise words, discerning. Introduced me to buttermilk. The greatest influence is my wife – another woman of wise words, enduring patience, unending love, thinks and hopes for the best, puts up with me and the dog. In love with her since I was 16…
