For the next week I will be taking a break from blogging.
I leave in a few hours to serve at kids camp and then it’s off on running to end the week with the major family events we’ve been preparing for. So, instead of trying to squeeze in half hearted posts I’m going to vacate, study and hopefully recharge.
In the midst of the craziness I will have some much needed quiet time in the evenings up at camp where I will be forced to be “un-plugged” from distraction. My plan is to ditch all the books I’m reading right now and resist packing my book tote I’ve been carrying around all summer to, instead, focus on only reading my bible. I’m embarking on a study of the beatitudes and Jesus’ sermon on the mount. It seems to be calling to me and I’m glad.
I miss Jesus.
The real Jesus.
The one that set my heart ablaze to love my enemy and reach the lost and hurting. The one that knows and loves every fiber of my soul and says that I have value and purpose because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I confess, due to my theological struggle of a mind trap I have been wary of Him and the bible for some time now. There are lots of voices and opinions demanding my attention in my thought life and His is but a whisper I have stopped listening for. Time to turn down the volume a bit on everyone else.
It sucks that I have let myself believe I could sustain some kind of controlled distance from the heart of my faith and not be affected. The bitterness in my heart has been a slow and sneaky rot that is now reeking and disabling me. I know that peace can only come from one place and I’ve been pacing outside the doorway for months.
That being said, I will be back to full swing blogging soon to report on my adventures in faith, family and whatever else I should encounter out there!
The Beatitudes
3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they will be satisfied.
7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
Matthew 5:3-10 (NLT)
